Think you know your South Aussie sporting legends? As the countdown to Paris 2024 intensifies, it’s time to test your knowledge of all things Olympic and Paralympic – South Australian style!

Paris 2024: It’s almost here!

The whole world is eagerly awaiting the biggest sporting event ever held in France – the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Here in South Australia, we’re all set to cheer on our local athletes from our couches as they compete for glory from July.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will officially commence on July 26 and run until August 11. The Paralympics will be held in Paris from August 28 to September 8. There will be plenty of SA athletes going for gold at both events.

SASI: The power behind the glory

From Olympic pools to Paralympic podiums, South Australia boasts a remarkable history of sporting triumphs. Since its establishment in 1982, the support making these victories possible has been the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI).

It’s the driving force behind our state’s athletic excellence, offering athletes tailored, holistic training programs delivered by the best coaches and supported by the most qualified science and health experts. With its new, state-of-the-art facility at Mile End ready to open its doors in August, SASI is set to propel the next generation of South Australian athletes to even greater heights.

Homegrown sporting heroes

South Australia is the place where some big names in the Olympic arena started out, while our state’s Paralympic stars continue to inspire us with their incredible achievements. Want even more reasons to get fired up ahead of Paris 2024?

Read the stories of light heavyweight boxer Callum Peters and T38 middle distance runner Angus Hincksman, for the scoop on what it’s like to be a young athlete representing Australia for the first time at the Paris Games. Trust us: These two are the stuff (future) South Aussie legends are made of!

To find out more about all the South Australian athletes competing, plus schedules and results, check out the Paris Olympics and Paralympics pages on the SASI website!
