School holidays in SA usually mean road trips – but they’re also one of the riskier times on our roads.
South Australia Police (SAPOL) say long weekends and holiday periods consistently bring higher traffic, longer travel distances and more serious crashes, especially on regional roads.
During the first three months of this year we’ve already seen 29 deaths and 227 serious injuries.
Speaking after recent road losses, SAPOL Traffic Services Branch Inspector Mark Atkinson says the impact goes far beyond the statistics.
“These are not just numbers,” he says. “There are going to be empty seats at the dinner table.”
